How to highlight interleaved rows in a Google Spreadsheet on PC or Mac

With this wikiHow, you will learn how to use a custom formula to highlight or shade cells in odd or even rows in a Google spreadsheet, which is worked on in a web browser

Steps

    In a web browser, go to the Google Spreadsheets page. Type sheets.google.com in the address bar and press the key. Intro of the keyboard.

    Select the file you want to edit. Find the spreadsheet you need from the list of saved items and open it.

    Click on the tab Format. This is located in the toolbar below the spreadsheet title in the upper left corner. Doing so will open a drop-down menu.

    Click on the option Conditional formatting?. In this way, you will access the formatting panel, which will appear on the right side of the spreadsheet.

    Select the text box below "Apply to range". This is located at the top of the formatting panel on the right. By doing so, you will be able to select the area you want to edit and highlight.

    Select the area you want to edit in the spreadsheet. Press the first cell and drag the mouse pointer to select the area to edit.
    • When you click on a cell, a window saying "What data" will appear. In it, you can see the range of selected cells.

    Click on Accept. In this way, you will confirm the range of selected cells.

    Click on the drop-down menu below the Format Cells If... button. This is located in the center of the formatting panel on the right. When you open it, you will see a list of available formatting conditions.

    Scroll down and select the option The customized formula is. This way, you can add your own formatting formula.

    Click on the box that says Value or formula of the format panel. Here you can write your personalized formula.

    Write =ISEVEN(ROW()) in the selected box. In this way, all even rows of the selected range of sows will automatically be highlighted.
    • If the formula does not highlight the rows you want, try the option =ISODD(ROW()). Thus, the odd rows of the selected range of cells will be highlighted.
    • You can place the row numbers on the far left of the spreadsheet.

    Click on the color menu under "Formatting Style". The default color is green. When you do so, a pop-up window will appear where you can choose another color to highlight the rows.

    Choose one of the colors in the window to highlight the cells. When doing so, the selected rows in the spreadsheet will automatically change color.

    Click on the button Ready. This is located at the bottom of the formatting panel. This will save the new formatting formula.
    • This button does not save the changes made to the spreadsheet, so make sure that they have been saved correctly before closing the file.
