Valve's Index VR headset will ship in June and orders will begin on May 1.
device will also come with Valve's next-generation index controllers, based on the "Knuckles" prototype.
Valve's product page for the Valve Index headset was launched a little earlier,
with a release date set for June 15 of this year.
Valve's page, which was first spotted by Twitter user @Wario64
is scarce in terms of information on the characteristics,
but it still gives us more information to work with from last week's test site,
including several specs for Valve's next mysterious VR headset.
Immediately, you will notice the integrated open-backed earpieces flanking each side,
which is an interesting design option that could keep the user aware of their surroundings while immersed in virtual reality.
Integrated headsets are nothing new for virtual reality headsets,
but an open back design, or at least what it appears to be, is definitely not common.
I'm curious to see how, if at all, the feeling of immersion changes when using Index.
Valve also lists the inputs supported by the Index, including DisplayPort 1.2 and USB 3.0,
as well as recommended system requirements that require an Nvidia GTX 1070 or higher graphics card.
The Index will also come with regionalized power adapter plugs,
two front seals (narrow and wide) and a power adapter, of course.
Valve's premature product page also has some links pointing to. another Page
with information about the base stations, but the link is dead.
In the meantime, the Index product description is populated with placeholder text.
Otherwise, there are no details mentioning the Valve Index camera sensor array,
which still leaves us in the dark about most of the VR headset's features.
