Microsoft gaming chief Phil Spencer admitted last year that the software maker had "a lot of work to do in Windows" for PC gamers. Microsoft is now starting to improve its Xbox integration on the PC with the unveiling of a major overhaul of the Game Bar feature in Windows 10. Available to beta testers, the updated Game Bar now includes widgets that look more like the overlays you'll find. in Nvidia's GeForce experience.

These widgets include many of the features you would normally find in the game bar, but there are also many new ones. Microsoft is integrating Spotify into this feature, allowing you to control song playback during games. There's also an audio widget for adjusting volume and in-game outputs, and a widget for monitoring CPU, GPU and RAM usage. The Xbox Game Bar can be activated using winkey + G in Windows 10, and this new design makes it much easier to use if you wanted to change it and then quickly return to the game.

Microsoft is also making it easier to turn captured screenshots into memes with quick editing and sharing with Twitter features.

You can capture a video, add text overlay and then instantly share it on Twitter, all while this interface sits above your game. There's even a new Xbox social widget with a friends list and the ability to quickly send messages from the game bar.

Microsoft has really focused on improving the Game Bar from being a simple bar to an overlay feature that is completely customizable. You can pin widgets where you want them and choose which ones to include or hide.

This new Xbox Game Bar is currently being tested for PC gamers, and Microsoft is looking for feedback before this is rolled out more widely. If you want to try out the new games bar, you can do so by launching Xbox Insider Hub on a Windows 10 PC and selecting Windows Games from internal content to enable it. Microsoft seems to finally be addressing some of its shortcomings in PC gaming, and we expect to see more work at E3 this year.
