Facebook will no longer allow Huawei to pre-install its apps on smartphones, reports Reuters . It is the latest example of technology companies Westerners that cut ties with the beleaguered giant Chinese telecommunications after President Trump issued an effective trade ban against it and Huawei phone owners will still be able to download and use apps such as WhatsApp, Instagram and the main Facebook app, and will continue to receive updates through the Play Store.

Huawei will not be able to include them out of the box, which it usually does along with other preloaded services such as Twitter.

Apparently, Facebook has landed on a different calculus to deal with Google's trade ban. Google has obtained a temporary license to continue shipping security updates to existing Huawei phones.

Huawei phones currently in stores or "those that have not yet shipped or even been built" will still have Google services preinstalled. Facebook, says Reuters, denies pre-installations on "any phones that have not yet shipped from the factory."

The Donald Trump administration in the U.S. announced on Thursday that it will give US$16 billion in grants to farmers affected by the dispute, a day after the Treasury Secretary said no new negotiations with China are on the agenda.
